The appointment of the Chairman of National Small Industries Corporation seems to have entered into choppy waters, causing embarrassment in the power corridors. According to sources, the Search Committee selected Dr Subransu Acharya for the post of Chairman of NSIC on 5th December 2023. However, on 7th December 2023, a complaint of forgery in the credentials was filed against Acharya with Minister MSME, Cabinet Secretary, Central Vigilance Commission and PMO. After a preliminary enquiry, the CVC took cognizance of the complaint. On 24th January 2024, the Union Minister of MSME took note of the complaint and sent a note sheet to the PMO seeking cancellation of the appointment of Subhransu Acharya, emphasising his under-qualification.
While seeking appointment cancellation on one end, the Minister, on the other hand, recommended Jitender Tiwari for the post of Chairman NSIC after obtaining due consensus and consulting search committee members. Top sources say that Tiwari's appointment file has been sent to ACC for approval.
