The present Delhi Police Commissioner is set to retire next month after a commendable tenure of three years. The successor's name remains shrouded in uncertainty at the MHA, with top sources indicating a foggy situation regarding the appointment of the new Delhi Police Commissioner. MHA has two obvious options: first, appoint a UT cadre Commissioner. Second- Extend the incumbent's tenure for a year.
Top sources reveal that the prospects of UT cadre officers are under limited consideration. The names of DG Prisons Satish Golcha and ADG CISF( Airport Security) Praveer Ranjan emerged as strong contenders for the position. However, the MHA is taking its time to decide on these two officers.
One top Source in MHA said that "selection of one name in two named panel is difficult because of confidence issue with one officer" Source add that Praveer Ranjan's chances are slim and he is most likely a CAPF choice reserved for August-September. One top Source adds that "Ranjan is still not able to inspire top echelon's confidence for Delhi Police Commissioner. With this issue, one name is left on the list- Satish Golcha, who has a good chance, but given the situation of limited and foggy choices, MHA has still not closed extension doors for Sanjay Arora.
