The outgoing Tamil Nadu DGP Shankar Jiwal IPS: TN: 1990 batch has been appointed as Chairman of Fire Commission, a newly created post by the Tamil Nadu Government responsible for overseeing fire and rescue services and strategically modernising it to improve the disaster response system in the state.
As Jiwal is set to demit office by the end of August, three names are now shortlisted for the next Tamil Nadu DGP. First: Mrs. Seema Agarwal, IPS: 1990, Sandeep Rai Rathore, IPS: 1992 batch. Second: Seema Agarwal, IPS, and G Venkataram, IPS: 1994. Top sources indicate that one name is expected to be selected by the government in the coming week. Sources add that it won't be surprising that if governments pick up the state's second woman DGP.
