Deepak Mittal, IFS officer 1998 batch, who is presently posted as OSD in the Prime Minister's Office, has been appointed as India's Ambassador to the UAE. He is considered a well-versed hand on West Asian affairs, especially the Pakistan-Afghanistan-Iran trio. A desk which he headed for two years from 2018-2020, and played an instrumental role in the Kartarpur Corridor for visa-free travel by Indian nationals to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib at Kartarpur in Pakistan. He was also part of the team that defended Kulbhushan Jadhav, an Indian national on death row in Pakistan, at the International Court of Justice at The Hague.
