The current DGP of Gujarat faces the end of his extended tenure this month, with government sources confirming no further extensions will be granted. This seemingly routine transition has unleashed a carefully orchestrated chain of moves that could reshape multiple security agencies simultaneously.
The Gujarat Race
This anticipated vacancy is most likely to create a chain reaction between the centre and the state, influencing CAPF appointments. Top sources say that DG CID K.L.N Rao is said to be gunning hard for the next DGP Gujarat, while MHA has set its sights on G.S Mallick for DG in CAPF in case he misses the DGP bus. Top sources add that Mallick recently met with the top brass of the MHA in Delhi.
Ahmedabad Surprise
Interestingly, to fill the power vacuum effectively in Gujarat, the Centre is most likely to parachute Special Director CBI Manoj Sashidhar as the next Ahmedabad Police Commissioner. Top sources say that Shashidhar is willing to return to the state. Sources add that if Shashidhar moves to Gujarat, Rakesh Agarwal of the NIA is positioned to step up as the new CBI Special Director.
The NIA Exit
Meanwhile in NIA as Sadanand Date is set to move State as DGP the incumbent DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav is most likely to takeover as next NIA DG.
The Gujarat factor and domino effect may trigger broader reshuffling among existing CAPF Director Generals, as the Centre weighs "accommodative calculations" to optimize leadership across forces in coming time.
