Delhi's Lieutenant Governor office is facing an unprecedented administrative crisis as a cascade of high-profile departures has left the institution virtually headless at the top echelons. The exodus began with the move of two Special Secretaries to the central deputation in August this year, with Principal Secretary Ashish Kundra making the final departure weeks ago.

    The Great Departure

August 2025- October 2025 marked a pivotal month for the LG office:

1-Secretary Surender Singh - The IAS officer on inter-cadre deputation from Uttar Pradesh returned to his home state In October

2- Special Secretary Isha Khosla - Moved to central deputation in August

3- Special Secretary Harleen Kaur - Also secured central deputation in the same month

This rapid succession of exits has left the office with only one functioning Special Secretary - a skeletal structure for an institution that oversees Delhi's administrative machinery.

    Cleanup or Chess Moves?

Top sources point to simmering tensions between the LG and top administrative officials over policy matters that had been brewing for months. Was this a calculated administrative restructuring to resolve these professional differences? More intriguingly, top sources say that Centre might be positioning its pieces for a potential change in Delhi's Lt. Governor post - possibly timed after the current Parliament session concludes.

The timing and scale of these movements suggest this isn't just routine bureaucratic reshuffling - but rather a strategic realignment that could reshape Delhi's administrative landscape in the coming months.
