Before electing the new chief of the Congress party, a huge chaos took place in the party. Rahul Gandhi had been backing Venu Gopal’s name. On the other hand, Ahmed Patel, Ashok Gehlot, Gulam Nabi Azad, P. Chidambaram and Kamalnath were pushing two names: one is, Mukul Vasnik and the other one is, Mallikarjun Khadge. Ahmed Patel is of the opinion that Venugopal doesn’t have much popularity even in his parent state i.e. Kerala; hence, some other strong names from Kerala could be Shashi Tharoor, A.K Antony and Oman Chandi. The party seems to have had a tough call in electing a new chief.
