The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is quietly but surely navigating a tumultuous path towards bifurcation in Punjab, particularly in the aftermath of the Ludhiana elections. This bye-election has transformed into a matter of prestige for political parties, according to insider sources. Ex Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal is stationed in Ludhiana, meticulously overseeing the preparations, fully invested in securing a victory for Sanjeev Arora, a current Rajya Sabha member. Should he succeed, Kenriwal is poised to fill the vacant seat in the Rajya Sabha, a move that has raised concerns within the BJP source says.

The ruling party is reportedly uneasy about Kejriwal's ambitions, fearing that Kejriwal’s ascent to the Rajya Sabha could solidify his influence, turning him into a formidable opponent who could pose significant challenges for the BJP in the future. To counter this threat, sources indicate that the BJP is covertly backing Bharat Bhushan Aashu, a seasoned Congress candidate with a solid reputation in the region. Aashu, an ex-minister, is well-known and respected, adding an extra layer of intensity to this heated contest source says.

In the midst of this political maelstrom, the Congress party has entrusted ex-Chief Minister Charanjeet Singh Channi with the responsibility of rallying support within the constituency. The race is shaping up to be fiercely contested. Should Sanjeev Arora fail to clinch victory, it’s rumored that a significant faction of 60 to 70 sitting MLAs could splinter off from AAP, forming a new party and in alliance with Congress and potentially receiving covert support from the BJP, form new government in Punjab source says.
