In the recently held municipal elections in Kerala, Shashi Tharoor, the Congress member of Parliament from Thiruvananthapuram, could not secure a victory for his party's candidates in the local body elections. The BJP got the victory despite, as he said, very aggressive campaigning by the senior leader, sources say. Similarly, the actor and member of parliament from the BJP from Thrissur, Suresh Babu as claimed by him that this entire area of Kerala would be coloured in saffron colour, failed in his commitment and the opposition candidates won the elections.

Though campaigning was very aggressive and the entire area was pasted with the posters and flags of the BJP, the voters refused to go with this aggressive campaigning source says. The minister in the cabinet seems to be losing his control over voters of the area, his constituency source says. The dismissal of these leaders by the voters indicates that voters are interested in development and not interested in going with the party line source says.
