Sushmta Dev Likely To Come Back In Congress?

Sushmita Dev daughter of a very strong and popular Congress leader of Assam, one time very close to Rahul Gandhi and an important member of the core team of Rahul Gandhi left the party and joined the TMC source says. She was immediately given a Rajya Sabha seat in 2024. Recently Garav Gogoi, president of the state Congress of Assam met her with a message from Rahul Gandhi. She was told to come to the party and oversee the party affairs in the Barak Valley of Assam source says. Barak Valley consists of two parliamentary seats, Karim Ganj and Silchar and comprises 15 assembly constituencies. Most of the seats approximately 12 out of 15 seats are dominated by Bengali Hindu and three by Muslim Bengali source says.

The Congress party does not have any big face to convince the voters in favour and Congress wants to make use of its stature and long association in its favour source says. Gogoi offered that in the event of the victory of the party she will be accommodated as minister in the state government source says.

Sushmita Dev bluntly replied that the offer should be discussed by Sonia ji in the presence of Rahul and only she will consider and added that she may or may not become the minister after the election but she will lose her Rajya Sabha seat, which is up to 2030. Gogoi could not reply to her and came back with a promise to reply soon after the discussions source says.
